Take a Selfie 90 Miles From Cuba

OUR SOUTHERNMOST POINT HOTELS

Stay near the Southernmost Point

Behold! Key West’s most famous photo op: the Southernmost Point concrete “buoy,” where tourists queue up to take pictures. Replacing a series of wooden signs that, ahem, kept going missing, the jauntily painted repurposed sewer junction has somehow never walked off.

Technically it’s not the southernmost point in the continental 48. That would be Ballast Key. It’s also not, TBH, even the southernmost point in Key West. That honor goes to a beach at Fort Zachary Taylor Historic Park. And although the paint says “90 miles from Cuba,” it’s actually more like 94.

But, hey, it’s close enough. And besides, it’s definitely the most famous southernmost selfie spot. Go early to get your snapshot before the cruise ships disembark and the line gets long.
